[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]17th March 2017 – University of Free State (QwaQwa Campus ) hosted a Drug Awareness campaign on their campus for their students. SADD was invited to speak on alcohol abuse in specific, and weigh in on some of the challenges faced by the students.

The Student Health and Wellness department managed to hire a sound system with music to attract the students to attend the event.

SADD was part of a group of speakers that were assigned to talk to the students about drug abuse, however most of the speakers did not attend. As a result SADD touched on various other drugs including marijuana, above their talk on alcohol abuse.

Among the challenges of the students were peer pressure, and the need to fit in into campus social life. The students were very intrigued with the talk, and asked various questions on how to cut down on their drinking, how they can help a friend with their drinking and where to go for help if they are having problems with their alcohol intake.

As a result the event was very interactive, and SADD had many activities for the students for them to understand the information better, especially using the Drunk Buster Goggles.

At the conclusion of the event, students had to answer questions based on the presentation to receive prizes (e.g. T-Shirts, fridge magnets). Most of the students that answered the questions were correct, which is an indication that our message was received.

Afterwards, the university organized meals for all the students that were in attendance, and created a lively setting that most students enjoyed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”559″ css_animation=”bounceIn”][vc_single_image image=”556″ css_animation=”bounceIn”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”558″ css_animation=”bounceIn”][vc_single_image image=”557″ css_animation=”bounceIn”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
